Anti-bullying
At St Barnabas we work hard to make sure children are safe and feel safe from bullying.
What is bullying?
Bullying is usually defined as behaviour that is:
- repeated
- intended to hurt someone either physically or emotionally
- often aimed at certain groups, eg because of race, religion, gender or sexual orientation
It takes many forms and can include:
- physical assault
- teasing
- making threats
- name calling
- cyberbullying - bullying via mobile phone or online (eg email, social networks and instant messenger)
We have a zero-tolerance approach to bullying. As well as marking national 'Anti-bullying week' every year, our Personal, Social and Health Education (PSHE) curriculum teaches children about lots of things including looking after themselves and others, which is linked to our Christian value of compassion.
We expect all members of our school to be kind.
Where can I get advice from if I am being bullied or know of someone being bullied?
You can speak to any adult in school about a bullying worry (we are a telling school); your worry will be taken seriously.
Our School Council wrote an 'Anti-bullying Charter' in January 2022, and posters showing this charter are around school to support children in knowing what to do.
